New Pattern Coming Spring 2009

Here's my little secret, my newest pattern. I still have some work to do but I am loving the design of this sweet little dress. It has a "Dick and Jane" feel to it, but with a modern twist. I have had a lot of fun with this pattern so far. I'm not sure about sizing yet, I thought about having 6 months up to a size 10, but I am wondering if 10 is too big.... Would people want this dress in a size 10? I know there is a serious lack of "big girl patterns" out there, but I'm not sure if a 10 yr old would wear this style. While I work out these little details I will keep you all updated. If you have any suggestions now is the time to speak up! I hope you all like this one!

Oh, and also.... I have been thinking about starting a blog called
"The Handmade Gift" But I wanted to get permission from you first because it sounds so much like your blog. I'll understand if you say no.

Oh and could I use one of your pictures? I want sort of put some frame on them.(I know I'm sounding greedy right now) But I promise to show you them once I'm finished.

Absolutely cute dress, but maybe stop at an 8. My 7 yo wears 8 and she would wear something like that IF I made it, not bought it. But in a year or two, when she is a 10, I don't know... Even the vintage patterns styles and bodice slopers seem to change at 10, as I discovered today in comparing 8's and 10's for Christmas dresses.

Great dress. My 5yo would love it and she's tall (and not skinny) so currently wears an 8! Its hard to find patterns for the younger, but tall girls...

LOVE the dress! It would be cute with a rounded apron attached to the front! Have no idea on the size, mine is only in 18 mons. right now!

I have the hardest time finding appropriate dresses for my 9 year old. If done with bigger girl fabric this would still be cute for her.

I LOVE it!! I just bought the PERFECT fabric for it two days ago. Seriously, we don't have to wait until spring for this, do we?? Don't you need some testers?? Like now?? :D

Size 10 does not necessarily equal 10 years of age. I have a feeling there will be ways to make the dress either little-girly or more sophisticated. At first glance, I could see using heirloom techniques on the bodice. Even the fabric chosen could make a difference.

I don't have a 10yo anymore, and my 10yo wouldn't have worn that style, anyway, but I think a size 10 would be a good idea. I have seen the lament many times about the lack of "little girl" patterns available nowadays, esp really sweet ones like that, in older sizes. People are really over trying to dress their little girls, when the only things available at that age/size, looks like mini-adults. Plus, as mentioned, size 10 does not always equal age 10. My dd was wearing womens size 8 by age 10, not from overweight, but from coming from a family of very tall, big people...and she's not the only one out there!

Dick and Jane was what I was thinking when I saw it too! I think it would be nice for a 10 year old to wear to a birthday or christmas party.

Cute, Samantha! My 8 year old who wears a size 10 would love that style in a big girl fabric. So, yes, make it in big girl sizes! :)

That dress is absolutely divine! I can just see my little girl in that next year! I cant wait for the pattern to be ready lol.

I think that having a selection of sizes is a great idea as there are so many little girls that would love that dress at 10 years of age and it certainly isnt something you could buy in a shop :)

I would love for this dress to come in a size 10. My 8 1/2 year old daughter really loves girly dresses but wears a size 10 and I often cannot find anything that appeals to her. Also,we live in Lima, Peru and our girls go to a school for missionary kids where they need to wear dresses or skirts every day, it is often hard for me to find styles that are considered proper. I agree that it can be a bit more sophisticated depending on the material you made it with. I can't wait for this pattern.

Ten may be a bit old, but I do hope you size to eight. I love your other two dress patterns and I would be the first to order this one if it went to size eight.

I can't help with the bigger sizes, but I did want to say that I love this dress! And as grandma to a darling girl that currently wears an 18 month size I can't wait til next spring to make one of these for her.

I agree with other posters about going ahead with the size 10. I know of several little girls who wear clothing several sizes bigger than their age, often due to their height. I would be more likely to purchase the pattern if I knew I could get it in the larger sizes.

Love your designs, my "little" girl, who is very petitie, is turning 12 next weekend. She abandoned dresses at age 10, but she was only wearing size 6 at the time. I think going to size 10 is good, to allow those taller but young in age girls enjoy being girls! But you might want to design the kind of short dress you wear over leggins with boots, that I saw all over NYCity, last weekend. The girls like showing off their boots, and you can't do that with jeans! Just my 2 cents, I would make my daughter sassy tops to wear with leggins. :)

New triple bunks.

Ben designed new bunk beds for the "girl's dorm" and "boy's dorm" in our house. We LOVE them!! The Family Closet

It's another gray day so the pictures aren't great, but I wanted to get these posted since I have a few minutes. The family closet has changed my life people!! It has taken my most overwhelming chore from crazy to totally doable. We had to start in the laundry room because that is were most of this process starts. These storage racks went on sale for 69$ right after Christmas and we got 3. We also got several of the $3.50 Steralite clothes baskets because they fit side by side perfectly. In the laundry room I now have baskets labeled (Whites, Towels, Darks, Reds & Purples -we have a lot of those!) to separate clothes into, baskets marked "Clean" for clean clothes, a place for storage (extra dish cloths, table cloths, socks that need a mate). The laundry room is much less intimidating now, I actually like going in there! I also now have room for my drying rack in here!
