The Secret Garden...

A few months back we found the perfect spot on our property, during one of our long walks, for a "Secret Garden". (That's one of our favorite movies, can you tell?) It really is perfect. It has this amazing "swinging tree" that is all crooked (this was the first selling point when choosing our own Secret Garden ya know). The clearing is set in the bend of the trail that runs alongside the creek, and the beavers have built a dam there for the perfect little swimming hole. Just beyond the swimming hole is a small waterfall, it's just enough to make the most beautiful background noise while we are there. It's close to home but not too close, I'd say a few acres away from the house. It's very private and closed off except for our little beaten path where we walk. Like I said...it's perfect....
I wanted to share some pictures and a video of our last night down at the Secret Garden. The kids were in the mood for smores so Daddy loaded up the tractor and we headed down there just before dark. On the way there I could barely hear them singing in the wagon over the noise of the tractor. I knew right off what my little angels were singing! It's the same song that Molly has requests in church every chance she gets...the song they all sing proudly every single Sunday... I'll Fly Away. Yes that old Hymn. Do you know how my heart leaps when I hear those tiny voices sing that old song? It almost always makes me tear up. When we got to the Secret Garden I hopped down from the tractor and caught this tiny clip of them singing. I wish it were more but it still gets me!

(This is a video, click the play symbol to watch)

They all had their little jobs, Tim took the bag of food, Maddie had the jug of milk, and Molly had the towel to sit on. Oh we had so much fun! They played on their swings while I took pictures and Daddy built the fire. Tim found a big spider and stomped it (Just like a boy, huh?) and tons of tiny spiders ran out! Molly had me digging trash out of the creek (we don't like trash in our Secret Garden don't ya know). And My sweet little Madeline went to rest in the wagon because she was getting sleepy. Then we all gathered around the fire and ate smores til we thought we would pop.

I know I say this all the time, but I'm going to miss this. Childhood is fleeting, everyday with them seems to pass so quickly..... Not all days are this lovely but I'm trying so hard lately to really stop and appreciate it while I have it still. There really is no greater joy than sweet moments like this with my precious family.

What a fabulous spot. It reminds me so much of my own childhood - my parents sang in a blugrass group and "I'll fly away" was and still is one of favorites!

It's cracking me up to see that wagon hooked to the tractor. We'll have to try that. I found your blog through SouleMama. Your patterns are sweet and make me wish I had a little girl. I have two of the spider stomping variety. Thanks for the fun pics!

That looks like so much fun. It inspires me to take more time to do that type of fun thing with my kids. Your family is so fun to read about. God Bless you guys.

I'll Fly Away was always my favorite song in church while growing up! I still remember when Brother Jack said "now turn to page 333 in your Hymns!" That brings back memories. :)

New triple bunks.

Ben designed new bunk beds for the "girl's dorm" and "boy's dorm" in our house. We LOVE them!! We are almost done with all of the work, just a few loose ends left to tie up, but I couldn't wait to show off his handy-work. This is the girl set. We stained them with colored stain and we really like how that turned out. It's almost the color of cranberries. I still need to paint the boards that are attached to the wall. I'm going to paint them the color of the wall so that it looks like the beds are floating. :)  This is the boy set while still under construction. We ordered new bunk mattresses, but they haven't come in yet. I will show you guys pictures when they are completely finished. We stained these green, it looks like the color of bamboo. The kids LOVE these beds! And oh the space we have now! I'll be back soon with finished pictures! xo, Sam If any of you make beds using these plans could you send us a picture? We ...

The Handmade Dress Infomercial: Do you suffer from scrached DVD's?

Do your children cry when they can't watch their favorite movie because of irritating scratches? Are you sick of paying good money for movies that are scratched minutes after you take them from the case? Do you often wish that we could just go back to VHS because you could leave them out in the rain, bring them in and use them for a coaster, and then let the baby throw it for fun and it would STILL WORK!? ME TOO ! . We have struggled for years with scratched movies that were no longer watchable, but not anymore! We have finally found the secret formula to rid you of this nasty little problem forever! . Crest Kids Toothpaste! YES, that's what I said! Kids toothpaste! . A few months back I heard some place that toothpaste would take of scratches and I tried it and it didn't work, then the other day out of pure desperation I tried it my way. IT WORKED! So I decided this kind of news could not be kept secret, I have to tell the world! So I ...

The Family Closet

It's another gray day so the pictures aren't great, but I wanted to get these posted since I have a few minutes. The family closet has changed my life people!! It has taken my most overwhelming chore from crazy to totally doable. We had to start in the laundry room because that is were most of this process starts. These storage racks went on sale for 69$ right after Christmas and we got 3. We also got several of the $3.50 Steralite clothes baskets because they fit side by side perfectly. In the laundry room I now have baskets labeled (Whites, Towels, Darks, Reds & Purples -we have a lot of those!) to separate clothes into, baskets marked "Clean" for clean clothes, a place for storage (extra dish cloths, table cloths, socks that need a mate). The laundry room is much less intimidating now, I actually like going in there! I also now have room for my drying rack in here! I painted a huge henna design on the wall to pretty it up a bit. :) The Caffee sign ...
