A wee cabled hat

I worked on a wee project this weekend for the new babe. My "if it's a boy" set is almost complete. I'm still missing something. What else would you add?

Aren't cables dressy looking? They are to me, they just make projects look complicated when they're really just not. If this baby decides to be a girl I think I'll just switch that pom-pom out for a hot pink one. :) I'm planning ahead!

Here is a picture of a doll wearing the hat. I think it should fit a newborn quite nicely. Want to hear a (random) shocker? I'm not a huge fan of baby dolls. Rag dolls, I like; baby dolls, notsomuch. I didn't like them as a young girl either. My girls love them! And I love that they love them, but I've always found it weird that I have never been drawn to them. I've just always liked babies! Real, smelly (even stinky, I don't care), squishy, cooing, adorable babies. I have always had a big imagination too, but in my mind there are some things that just can't be substituted. It's like the difference in a water park and a plastic kiddie pool, it just doesn't add up. Rag dolls are awesome because they can just be a pal or extra tea party guest, they aren't walking around trying to be REAL babies with that creepy rubbery skin.

Well there you have it, a completely random post from a crazy, 6 month pregnant lady, who doesn't like baby dolls. Enjoy! :) Oh, and here is the Ravelry link if ya want to check out this free easy pattern! xo, Sam

LOL - my 7 yr old cannot get into dolls of any sort...oh, she tries and pretends to like them, especially if one is received as a gift. But they usually get forgotten in lieu of animals of any kind. And yet - she aspires to be a mommy who home schools...does a home schooling mama's heart serious good. :)
(On the flip side, my 18 month old adores baby dolls and has since since she first saw one and gave her first giggle...go figure.)

What needles do you use / recommend? I love to knit ans am a beginner. I would love to get some Interchangeable needles/cables. What would you recommend? It seems all the ones I find only come with small or large cables.

Elise, I LOVE my knit picks interchangeables. I have never had any trouble with them and they have 24" cables (which I find to be a perfect length for most of my projects. I have the harmony wood set and they are amazing. I can't say enough good things about them. I also have ordered 2 sets of fixed circs that I use for hats. They are 16" and one is a size 6 and the other a size 9. Compared to the other sets they are very affordable too. The cheap-o set at Michaels actually costs more than a knit picks set. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Some kids just don't like dolls, and that's okay! As for what you're "missing" - I'd add a pair of booties, but that's just me. :)

I have the knit picks harmony interchangeables too! And to confess several other interchangeable sets too. Hands down the Harmony from Knit Picks are the best.
I dont like the ones that look like new borns and make noises...eek
oh, and a little cardy would go perfect with that hat...cos you can change the colour of the buttons.

New triple bunks.

Ben designed new bunk beds for the "girl's dorm" and "boy's dorm" in our house. We LOVE them!! We are almost done with all of the work, just a few loose ends left to tie up, but I couldn't wait to show off his handy-work. This is the girl set. We stained them with colored stain and we really like how that turned out. It's almost the color of cranberries. I still need to paint the boards that are attached to the wall. I'm going to paint them the color of the wall so that it looks like the beds are floating. :)  This is the boy set while still under construction. We ordered new bunk mattresses, but they haven't come in yet. I will show you guys pictures when they are completely finished. We stained these green, it looks like the color of bamboo. The kids LOVE these beds! And oh the space we have now! I'll be back soon with finished pictures! xo, Sam If any of you make beds using these plans could you send us a picture? We ...

The Handmade Dress Infomercial: Do you suffer from scrached DVD's?

Do your children cry when they can't watch their favorite movie because of irritating scratches? Are you sick of paying good money for movies that are scratched minutes after you take them from the case? Do you often wish that we could just go back to VHS because you could leave them out in the rain, bring them in and use them for a coaster, and then let the baby throw it for fun and it would STILL WORK!? ME TOO ! . We have struggled for years with scratched movies that were no longer watchable, but not anymore! We have finally found the secret formula to rid you of this nasty little problem forever! . Crest Kids Toothpaste! YES, that's what I said! Kids toothpaste! . A few months back I heard some place that toothpaste would take of scratches and I tried it and it didn't work, then the other day out of pure desperation I tried it my way. IT WORKED! So I decided this kind of news could not be kept secret, I have to tell the world! So I ...

The Family Closet

It's another gray day so the pictures aren't great, but I wanted to get these posted since I have a few minutes. The family closet has changed my life people!! It has taken my most overwhelming chore from crazy to totally doable. We had to start in the laundry room because that is were most of this process starts. These storage racks went on sale for 69$ right after Christmas and we got 3. We also got several of the $3.50 Steralite clothes baskets because they fit side by side perfectly. In the laundry room I now have baskets labeled (Whites, Towels, Darks, Reds & Purples -we have a lot of those!) to separate clothes into, baskets marked "Clean" for clean clothes, a place for storage (extra dish cloths, table cloths, socks that need a mate). The laundry room is much less intimidating now, I actually like going in there! I also now have room for my drying rack in here! I painted a huge henna design on the wall to pretty it up a bit. :) The Caffee sign ...
