Experimenting

I have fabrics draped over everything in the house! I got a couple of drop cloths from Home Depot to make  my couch slipcover with (thanks for the ideas!), and the other fabrics are going to cover the pillows. Come on in and take a look around. :)

Sometimes I have to experiment with things around the house before I decide. Do you do that? I'm fearless when it comes to dresses, but my home is so personal that I have to make changes more slowly. I have to love everything in my house, I don't even care if it matches or not (I sorta hate for things to match), I just have to love it or it can't stay. So this is how my house looks right now.... I'm just going to let the fabrics lay there for a few days to see if they want to live here or not, after that if I don't love it, it goes back in the stash for another project.

Here is my bedroom. I know that I want a change in here, but I'm still not sure what I want to add or "edit"....

My favorite things about my room is the little couch at the end of my bed, the french doors, and the bathroom sink. Oh an the cradle that my Paw Paw made me, I especially love that it's in my room right now and not in the attic!

This has been so much fun so far! I'm not looking forward to sewing another slipcover (it's such a big job) but I love playing with the fabrics and colors, and moving fabrics around throughout the day to experiment.

What do you think? If you have any ideas throw'em my way! You guys are always full of good ideas! xo, Sam

I love reading your blog! Your family is too sweet and I love that you don't like things to match...me either. I like old and new mixed together. I like people to say "that's so Mica." Thanks for sharing glimpes into your world with us. Good luck with picking fabric...that's the hardest part!
i also need to make a slipcover. But i have one of those sort of overstuffed counches and love seat. Still very comfy, but the seats are wearing thin. HELP

I love it! It's open and airy with small pops of color. Very pretty! I don't like to be matchy matchy either. I can't wait to see the finished project. How do you go about making a slipcover? I'm thinking that I to do one in my girl's playroom but don't really know where to start!

Wow! I love the feeling of lightness with most of the color in the accessories. LOVE! I'm especially fond of those berry colored french doors. I don't think i'd change a thing!

I adore the vintage hanky fabric!!!! Your home is so spacious! What a good idea to live with the fabrics before diving in. It's really no fun when you work yourself into a frenzy and finally finish a project only to find it's not really what you want. Also kudos on your housekeeping. It's hard to believe you have a nursing newborn with several siblings and such a clean home, not to mention you sew, design, and write a blog! I need you to come give me lessons!

I really love your idea of draping all the fabrics around to get a feeling of what would work and what wouldn't! I cannot give a useful opinion because I loved all the fabrics, but I AM taking a leaf out of your book.

Oh and I ADORE that table next to your sofa! I want one so bad!!!!!!1

New triple bunks.

Ben designed new bunk beds for the "girl's dorm" and "boy's dorm" in our house. We LOVE them!! We are almost done with all of the work, just a few loose ends left to tie up, but I couldn't wait to show off his handy-work. This is the girl set. We stained them with colored stain and we really like how that turned out. It's almost the color of cranberries. I still need to paint the boards that are attached to the wall. I'm going to paint them the color of the wall so that it looks like the beds are floating. :)  This is the boy set while still under construction. We ordered new bunk mattresses, but they haven't come in yet. I will show you guys pictures when they are completely finished. We stained these green, it looks like the color of bamboo. The kids LOVE these beds! And oh the space we have now! I'll be back soon with finished pictures! xo, Sam If any of you make beds using these plans could you send us a picture? We ...

The Handmade Dress Infomercial: Do you suffer from scrached DVD's?

Do your children cry when they can't watch their favorite movie because of irritating scratches? Are you sick of paying good money for movies that are scratched minutes after you take them from the case? Do you often wish that we could just go back to VHS because you could leave them out in the rain, bring them in and use them for a coaster, and then let the baby throw it for fun and it would STILL WORK!? ME TOO ! . We have struggled for years with scratched movies that were no longer watchable, but not anymore! We have finally found the secret formula to rid you of this nasty little problem forever! . Crest Kids Toothpaste! YES, that's what I said! Kids toothpaste! . A few months back I heard some place that toothpaste would take of scratches and I tried it and it didn't work, then the other day out of pure desperation I tried it my way. IT WORKED! So I decided this kind of news could not be kept secret, I have to tell the world! So I ...

The Family Closet

It's another gray day so the pictures aren't great, but I wanted to get these posted since I have a few minutes. The family closet has changed my life people!! It has taken my most overwhelming chore from crazy to totally doable. We had to start in the laundry room because that is were most of this process starts. These storage racks went on sale for 69$ right after Christmas and we got 3. We also got several of the $3.50 Steralite clothes baskets because they fit side by side perfectly. In the laundry room I now have baskets labeled (Whites, Towels, Darks, Reds & Purples -we have a lot of those!) to separate clothes into, baskets marked "Clean" for clean clothes, a place for storage (extra dish cloths, table cloths, socks that need a mate). The laundry room is much less intimidating now, I actually like going in there! I also now have room for my drying rack in here! I painted a huge henna design on the wall to pretty it up a bit. :) The Caffee sign ...
