Preparations

Well it looks like we may be in the home stretch. My doctor told me Tuesday at my 35 week appointment that he doesn't think I'll make it back in next Tuesday, even with the pump on. His official prediction was that I will have this babe on Monday (on his birthday). I had dilated more and all of the signs seem to point towards having a baby in the next few days. I'm at peace with that. I've fought a good fight and I have come a long way and there just comes a point that you have to hand it over to God. That's what we have done. Monday, at almost 36 weeks, we have a pretty good chance of bringing baby home and I am so relieved to be past the 35 week mark. I'm telling ya, there were times in the hospital that I didn't think we would make it this time! Thank God I was wrong!

So now we are trying little by little to get those last minute baby preparations done. Well, really, my baby sister and my mom is sort of pressuring me into getting them done. :) But that's fine, sometimes I need that little push. It's funny, I don't have that anxious drive to get ready like I did with the others. I'm not anxious at all knowing that I will be giving birth within a few days...Is it a fourth baby thing? Or could it still be my newly developed (in the last five years) defense mechanism that won't let me get excited until things are a done deal? I don't know, but I do know that I've enjoyed the peacefulness of it all. :) So far I have made out the call list, and made the baby bed....

I got mostly packed...but that has to be a two part process since I can't be up for long. I'm going to try to finish up tonight.

With a little help from family we finally have all of the preemie clothes, onesies, blankets, and burp cloths, clean and put away.

Boy I forgot just how tiny those sleepers were!

I still need to help the kids get packed, charge the camera batteries and get the SD cards cleaned off, catch up on a few emails, and make a list of things for Ben to put in the car on the way out the door....and then I think I'm done. A few other things that could be done but I think life can go on without them.

So tell me, what all do you usually do in the last few days to get ready for a new baby? (Just in case I forgot anything! Ha!) I'll be back soon, maybe with a baby to show off! Will it be a Silas or Claire? :) xo, Sam

How exciting! I had my 5th baby 8 months ago. I'm trying to remember what I packed that I was glad I had. Definitely camera/video. I brought my own nursing nightgowns, lots of my own clothes for the baby (I was glad I did, because this hospital only provided onesies). I brought a blanket with the baby's name machine embroidered (but you'd have to get 2 ready), I also brought a little notebook to keep track of feedings, diapers, sleep, etc. Maybe little gifts for your other kids. Thinking of you and wishing you an easy, healthy, quick birth.

This may sound odd, but you could bring some Depends type undergarments, which are much more comfy afterwards than the army-style pads the hospital provides. Got this advice from a nurse and it has served me well. Best wishes!

How exciting! Although I'm secretly rooting for your doctor to be wrong and for you to reach that 36 week mark. (or beyond?) It's amazing what can happen, with one of my preemies, I actually sat dilated to 6 for a week before he was born. You just never know. :)

Good luck, and can't wait to see whether it's team pink or blue!

I'm glad to hear you've made it this far. I know it's put your body through the wringer, but every day you can give them is great. Our little guy or girl is getting evicted a week from Monday if she or he hasn't come by then, so maybe your little one will hold out until then! I've been praying for your little one to stay put in there and try to make it easy on mama.

I am so excited for you and your family:) The time has come and all will be well:) No more worries, no more drugs and pumps, just a little one to hold. I am proud of you for hanging in there so strong. My prayers for you are a reasonably easy labor.lol(they are never completely easy). Will be thinking about you and praying.

I know this may sound crazy, but I have been reading your blog for awhile, and even though we are strangers and may never meet, you are in my thoughts and prayers....in fact I was reading your post, with tears in my eyes and a prayer on my mind, and in the background my son was listening to the Crabb Family singing "Through the Fire"...you have been through so much, I am so happy and excited to see what God is doing for you...

So exciting! I am also a complete stranger to you - but you, your family, and that sweet baby have been on my mind a lot! I am praying for a safe delivery and happy, healthy baby and momma. I wish you all the best! You deserve it.

I can't wait to hear if it has been Silas or Claire camping out in there! (I love those names, btw)

Many prayers your way!

Very exciting Sam! I am praying for you. It's wonderful to hear you have handed it all over to God, it's hard but he is always in control.
When I had my little girl I took a roll of my own toilet paper to the hospital as their paper was hard and scratchy, definately what you don't want to use when you have just given birth. I think people thought I was strange but I didn't care!

God bless Sam and I will be watching out for an update!

I always brought socks and a tennis ball. The socks for when my feet got cold in labor, and the tennis ball for someone to give counter-pressure on my back during contractions.
