I did it!! I knitted something!

Lately I've been thinking about how knitted booties look much more boyish than crocheted booties, so I decided that I need a crocheted pair to match the Claire/girl blanket and a knitted pair to match the Silas/boy blanket. Then that got me thinking about how I need to get past the "swatch" stage of knitting and learn to knit something useful. I watched a few You Tube videos, and spent waaay too much time on Ravelry (a girl can get lost there ya know), but I finally called my friend Cami who last time this year was knitting boy booties for her own little one.

She came over yesterday and walked me through this simple little baby sock/bootie and I was really surprised at how easy it really was! I can knit! It's not perfect (at all) but I didn't expect to get this far! Now I want to try these booties in the gray yarn that I'm using in the boy (Silas) blanket. I can't wait to see how they turn out!

I'm going on a little outing tomorrow and I wanted to swing by the bookstore to look at knitting books. Does anyone have a good suggestion for a beginners knitting book that has baby projects? Or are there any good knitting blogs out there that I need to know about? xo, Sam

P.S. Do you like how I snuck in our baby names?

another precious blog post, another desire to learn to knit! The booties are so sweet, and I had to comment on the name Silas. I just love that name, I love, love it. My husband hasn't loved it as much as me, so it never made it to one of our boys. To me, any little fella named Silas has to be the most precious thing!

I loved this book, and is great for beginners:

Beautiful! I always enjoy vintage knitting books which can be found inexpensively on ebay. They usually have tons of bootie/bonnet patterns. I love your names, especially "Claire"- have you ever read the "Outlander" series by Diana Gabaldon? Claire is the main character and the books are fabulous!

Well the booties are cute, but I think the names you have picked are even cuter. Love them both!

I have tried to knit and it was a mess....That is one hobby no for me! I was amazed at what a wonderful job you did on the booties!

I was just thinking this morning that I LOVE the name Claire. Its so beautiful and simply elegant. But Im all done making babies so I was going to file it away for name request for grandchildren...lol (a very long time from now)
Silas is a wonderful name too. Im so excited to find out what name gets to be used!

The Handmade Dress Infomercial: Do you suffer from scrached DVD's?

Do your children cry when they can't watch their favorite movie because of irritating scratches? Are you sick of paying good money for movies that are scratched minutes after you take them from the case? Do you often wish that we could just go back to VHS because you could leave them out in the rain, bring them in and use them for a coaster, and then let the baby throw it for fun and it would STILL WORK!? ME TOO ! . We have struggled for years with scratched movies that were no longer watchable, but not anymore! We have finally found the secret formula to rid you of this nasty little problem forever! . Crest Kids Toothpaste! YES, that's what I said! Kids toothpaste! . A few months back I heard some place that toothpaste would take of scratches and I tried it and it didn't work, then the other day out of pure desperation I tried it my way. IT WORKED! So I decided this kind of news could not be kept secret, I have to tell the world! So I

New triple bunks.

Ben designed new bunk beds for the "girl's dorm" and "boy's dorm" in our house. We LOVE them!! We are almost done with all of the work, just a few loose ends left to tie up, but I couldn't wait to show off his handy-work. This is the girl set. We stained them with colored stain and we really like how that turned out. It's almost the color of cranberries. I still need to paint the boards that are attached to the wall. I'm going to paint them the color of the wall so that it looks like the beds are floating. :)  This is the boy set while still under construction. We ordered new bunk mattresses, but they haven't come in yet. I will show you guys pictures when they are completely finished. We stained these green, it looks like the color of bamboo. The kids LOVE these beds! And oh the space we have now! I'll be back soon with finished pictures! xo, Sam If any of you make beds using these plans could you send us a picture? We
