Vegitarian :: Day 3

This morning marks day 3 of being a vegetarian. So far I have felt pretty good. I have had a few moments that I felt a little weird (light headed and foggy), but overall it's been a good experience. After reading a few of the comments from the last post I realised that I wasn't super clear about our "diet plan rules". Oops. You know how I can get ahead of myself! On our plan (the one we made up) we have cut out all sodas, processed food, meat or meat substitutes, and anything else considered unhealthy (no matter how many calories it has). We are eating a lot of veggies from the garden, dry beans, mixed nuts, whole grains, and we are trying new recipes! My plan is a little different from Ben's, I have tried to eat most of my veggies raw while he is more focused on getting loads of protein. We loved all of the recipes and links!!! We tried the black bean burgers last night and we both liked them! Tonight I think Ben wants to try a new sauce to eat on whole grain noodles. Honestly, I have been so excited about all of the food that I haven't really missed anything. Everything I have put in my mouth so far has been soooo good! I can totally see why some people would never want to go back. For today my report is....I love this so far! Oh, and we have both lost a couple of pounds so far! I know the weight loss will slow down soon but I'm still pretty pumped about it! So, do you have any questions? More recipes you wanna share?? Hit me! xo, Sam

I completely admire you for doing this! sometimes it takes a drastic change -like cutting out everything you listed- to find a balance.

I want to try to incorporate more raw/vegetarian foods to our diet just mainly because meat is sooo expensive and when we're on our own land, we'll be the butcher. I can see us eating less meat because of that alone. But I'm at a loss on how to do it. I'll have to go back and look at all the links and things people posted on the other post!

This is a great idea and also somehting I've wanted to try for my family as well, but am alittle unsure how to go about doing it. I'll look through the recipes posted here. Good luck! :)

Good for you! When we went all-natural 6 years ago, the first couple weeks were sooo hard - but now, we can't imagine living any other way!

My husband has lost about 27 pounds by eating mostly a vegetarian diet lately. He eats some meat, but rarely. it isn't working so well for me.

I'm so glad you are trying vegetarian!
My family thought I was crazy when I first went vegetarian, but my daughter, sister and son have followed me and all agree that we feel SO much better.
It was a brand new way of cooking for me and opened up a whole new world of food that I never would have tried. In the beginning I started at the library checking out vegetarian cookbooks. It let me find what books and authors I liked well enough to buy.

I love and rely on beans. I make a batch of hummus every weekend and use it for lunch sandwiches all week. In the heat of summer a big tossed salad with beans and sunflower seeds for protein is great.

Congratulations on being vegetarian for 3 days! I hope you continue and enjoy it!

I have been vegetarian since I was 16. I am now in my 40s. There are so many wonderful meat substitutes to make the transition a little easier. Morning Star has products such as sausage, burgers, etc. at your local Walmart in the frozen food section.

Tofu is another wonderful substitute. You can make eggless salad with tofu by adding everything you would put in egg salad but put it in tofu.

And there is the tried and true -- "haystack"! That is tortillia chips, lettuce, beans, tomatoes, onions, avacado etc.

The Family Closet

It's another gray day so the pictures aren't great, but I wanted to get these posted since I have a few minutes. The family closet has changed my life people!! It has taken my most overwhelming chore from crazy to totally doable. We had to start in the laundry room because that is were most of this process starts. These storage racks went on sale for 69$ right after Christmas and we got 3. We also got several of the $3.50 Steralite clothes baskets because they fit side by side perfectly. In the laundry room I now have baskets labeled (Whites, Towels, Darks, Reds & Purples -we have a lot of those!) to separate clothes into, baskets marked "Clean" for clean clothes, a place for storage (extra dish cloths, table cloths, socks that need a mate). The laundry room is much less intimidating now, I actually like going in there! I also now have room for my drying rack in here!
