Colorful lace tutorial. It's cold and dreary outside....

...but it's nice and bright in here!

(In case you are wondering what that is hanging from her neck. it's an antique key, tied to a strip of fabric...she's hoping to find the secret garden someday that it goes to. I don't question her.)

I've been making the girls and I a little stash of colorful headbands! I'll tell you how I did it.

I always  keep the basic craft paint colors here like red, blue, white, and yellow; then I can mix those to get any color I want. I mix my colors in small bowls then I water it down a little with water and mix it well. Keep in mind that the color won't be as bright when it dries, so make it a little brighter than you think it should be. You want a watery consistency, but you don't want enough water to fade the color. Then I put the lace in and let it soak up all of the color, sometimes I have to kinda squeeze it into the lace if I didn't mix enough. After that I lay it over the sink to drain out all of the excess water.

When I feel like it's done dripping I hang them over the sink on my mini clothes line, you could use the shower rod (just be sure that you put it somewhere that if it does drip you will be able to clean it up easily). By the way- I almost didn't want to take these down because they looked so happy and colorful hanging there over the sink. I really think they made doing the dishes a little easier!

When they were completely dry I rinsed them out with a little fabric softener and hot water, let them hang dry again, and now they are colorful, soft, and ready for ribbons! Do you see that wide lace there on the spool in the background? I'm going to try a little something with that next. I'll keep you posted on that. The kids and I used this same method of watering down craft paint to make tie dyed shirts back in the summer and after being washed several times they still look good. There you are my dear friends, your very own how to color lace tutorial, now go forth and color your world! And then come back here and tell me about it!

Update: This is the exact brand of paint that I have, I got it a Wal-Mart.

Sissy make me some with my sandwich bags! I'm not crafty at all. Only thing I can make is a good smoothie. YUM! :) Why did you inherit all of the craftiness from Momma and Grandma? I didn't get ANY! I still remember when Sam started sewing and coming to mom for advice. Look at her now! WOW!

The Handmade Dress Infomercial: Do you suffer from scrached DVD's?

Do your children cry when they can't watch their favorite movie because of irritating scratches? Are you sick of paying good money for movies that are scratched minutes after you take them from the case? Do you often wish that we could just go back to VHS because you could leave them out in the rain, bring them in and use them for a coaster, and then let the baby throw it for fun and it would STILL WORK!? ME TOO ! . We have struggled for years with scratched movies that were no longer watchable, but not anymore! We have finally found the secret formula to rid you of this nasty little problem forever! . Crest Kids Toothpaste! YES, that's what I said! Kids toothpaste! . A few months back I heard some place that toothpaste would take of scratches and I tried it and it didn't work, then the other day out of pure desperation I tried it my way. IT WORKED! So I decided this kind of news could not be kept secret, I have to tell the world! So I

New triple bunks.

Ben designed new bunk beds for the "girl's dorm" and "boy's dorm" in our house. We LOVE them!! We are almost done with all of the work, just a few loose ends left to tie up, but I couldn't wait to show off his handy-work. This is the girl set. We stained them with colored stain and we really like how that turned out. It's almost the color of cranberries. I still need to paint the boards that are attached to the wall. I'm going to paint them the color of the wall so that it looks like the beds are floating. :)  This is the boy set while still under construction. We ordered new bunk mattresses, but they haven't come in yet. I will show you guys pictures when they are completely finished. We stained these green, it looks like the color of bamboo. The kids LOVE these beds! And oh the space we have now! I'll be back soon with finished pictures! xo, Sam If any of you make beds using these plans could you send us a picture? We
