Meet Miss Alice, and something about Mary...

Miss Alice....Oh she is just so lovely! This is the Fall dress I told you about, and the next pattern! The colors are so perfect for Fall! The orange fabric is an old thrifted pillowcase, it made for a really ugly pillowcase, but I think it made an awesome dress.

Miss Alice has a flat front, perfect for monogramming, embroidery, or appliques; and gathers under the arms for fullness. I love the way this turned out! Sometimes my designs just aren't near as cute as the sketch I start with, but this one turned out better than I expected. Below is the original sketch, I did draft the yoke a little wider and skip the buttons, but that's all that changed in the design process (which is sort of unheard of).

Madeline looks like a little school girl here! Doesn't she look like she should have a little stack of books in her hand?

I know some of you may be wondering "What in the world happened to Miss Mary?"....well, there is a very good, but long, explanation for that. The short version is this: I would have to raise the cost of the pattern, to cover the cost of printing, higher than I would feel comfortable with. I really like keeping my printed patterns in the $11- $12 range, anymore than that and I start to feel like it's getting too expensive. So until I can find a way to have pieces that large printed for a good price, Miss Mary will have to go in the back burner. I'm sorry. I feel really bad about it, but I would feel even worse having to charge you an arm and a leg for a pattern.

I need some feedback! What do you think about the cost of patterns? Do you like Miss Alice? And are you ready for the huge surprise (sewing related) that I get to announce in the next week?! Oh, it's big! Huge in fact! I better go before I tell!

Hi Sam! I love the new pattern- Madeline looks gorgeous in it too! As for the cost of patterns, some companies charge around the $15 mark for their patterns. Maybe if you could print in bulk it would be cheaper per pattern? I suppose it does depend on how many people order printed pattern versus pdf ones. If more order pdf, perhaps you could only offer it as a pdf and if it is really popular, then have a printed version available?

I can't wait to hear what your huge suprise is!

So pretty and I wanted to tell you that I love how your patterns have longer skirts. My dd is long and narrow and with a lot of patterns I have to add a lot of length or they are way too short. Its so nice to just be able to make yours without adjustment.

I love Miss Alice! It helps, of course, that my little sister's name is Alice. As for the bigger patterns, would it be an option to only sell those as PDF files? Then you wouldn't have to worry about the bigger pattern pieces. Also, you cut make the pattern pieces smaller and have the consumer piece them together. For example, make the front skirt 2 pieces, and then I could trace to two pieces together. Can't wait to hear about your big news next week!

I LOOOOOVE it! I absolutely love the fact that it has a flat front but still fits loosely. Can't wait for it to come out! My girls are gonna love it. You are making it in bigger girls' sizes, too, aren't you?! Pretty please with sugar on top! :)

The Handmade Dress Infomercial: Do you suffer from scrached DVD's?

Do your children cry when they can't watch their favorite movie because of irritating scratches? Are you sick of paying good money for movies that are scratched minutes after you take them from the case? Do you often wish that we could just go back to VHS because you could leave them out in the rain, bring them in and use them for a coaster, and then let the baby throw it for fun and it would STILL WORK!? ME TOO ! . We have struggled for years with scratched movies that were no longer watchable, but not anymore! We have finally found the secret formula to rid you of this nasty little problem forever! . Crest Kids Toothpaste! YES, that's what I said! Kids toothpaste! . A few months back I heard some place that toothpaste would take of scratches and I tried it and it didn't work, then the other day out of pure desperation I tried it my way. IT WORKED! So I decided this kind of news could not be kept secret, I have to tell the world! So I

New triple bunks.

Ben designed new bunk beds for the "girl's dorm" and "boy's dorm" in our house. We LOVE them!! We are almost done with all of the work, just a few loose ends left to tie up, but I couldn't wait to show off his handy-work. This is the girl set. We stained them with colored stain and we really like how that turned out. It's almost the color of cranberries. I still need to paint the boards that are attached to the wall. I'm going to paint them the color of the wall so that it looks like the beds are floating. :)  This is the boy set while still under construction. We ordered new bunk mattresses, but they haven't come in yet. I will show you guys pictures when they are completely finished. We stained these green, it looks like the color of bamboo. The kids LOVE these beds! And oh the space we have now! I'll be back soon with finished pictures! xo, Sam If any of you make beds using these plans could you send us a picture? We
