The Hiding Places

Doesn't every kid need a good hiding spot?
A spot that's just theirs and nobody else's....
A place of their own, where nobody else is allowed..
We think so too!
A few weeks ago Tim discovered that the trim would flip down on either side of the fireplace, because we never screwed it back on after the fireplace redo last year. How is it that the little stuff just goes undone until you just forget about it? He was so excited about his new secret discovery that Ben decided to take it one step further and cut a hole there so he could hide things in the wall.
Guess you already know how that played out! LOL! The girls needed a hiding place too. He needed just the right spot to hide his marble egg (that was a crazy yard sale find that he just "had" to have).
Of course there had to be a few rules too....you know to prevent any fist fights that may happen otherwise.
Hiding Place Rules:
1. Never, under any circumstances, are you to touch OR look in any one's hiding place but yours. The punishment for this crime is death. LOL!
2. No food in the walls. Under no circumstances are you to hide snacks in your hiding spot, EVEN IF your brother or sister has already found your other M&D (mom and dad) approved hiding place. We don't want any critters in the walls. The punishment for this crime is....well, you may end up with critters in your walls.

That is a crazy-fun idea!!! Love it! I think I might need a hiding spot for all my treasures too :-)

This is such a sweet post. I LOVE these little hiding places. I know exactly what I would have done if I had one when I was a child....or now. I would have decorated it as a little house for a mouse with furniture and a rug, etc. Oh! I want a little hiding place!

Have you ever seen the French film "Amelie"? We have it edited for content, and I'm not sure what they cut out . . . Anyway, it's it's about a woman who finds a boy's hidden treasures in the wall 50 years later and starts searching for him to give it back.

That is a great idea! I would have never thought of it...but I am going to have to think of hiding places for our children as well. :-)

What a sweet idea! My grandmother had those marble eggs and they were the FAVORITE toys of the great grands. Go figure!

New triple bunks.

Ben designed new bunk beds for the "girl's dorm" and "boy's dorm" in our house. We LOVE them!! We are almost done with all of the work, just a few loose ends left to tie up, but I couldn't wait to show off his handy-work. This is the girl set. We stained them with colored stain and we really like how that turned out. It's almost the color of cranberries. I still need to paint the boards that are attached to the wall. I'm going to paint them the color of the wall so that it looks like the beds are floating. :)  This is the boy set while still under construction. We ordered new bunk mattresses, but they haven't come in yet. I will show you guys pictures when they are completely finished. We stained these green, it looks like the color of bamboo. A Wee Newborn Fairy Bonnet Pattern

I wanted to make something to go with the cardigan I made for my coming niece, so I decided on a wee fairy bonnet. I didn't find a pattern online and what I had in mind was simple enough, so I knit this one up and jotted down the pattern to share. ( matching cardigan ) So here is what you will need to get started.... Worsted weight yarn Size 9 knitting needles Size H crochet hook Finished measurements before seaming is 12" x 5 1/2". Cast on 52 sts Row 1-4: k every st Row 5: k4, P to last 4 sts, k4 Row 6: k3, yo, k2tog, k to last 5 sts, k2tog, yo, k3 (This will make a little buttonhole for the strap to thread through later, see picture above.) Row 7: k4, p to last 4 sts, k4 Row 8: k every st Repeat until piece measures 5 1/2", BO leaving a 12" thread tail.
