Molly's New Dress

I'm a little hung up on this "big girl look" lately (I explained that here on this post), so I've been working on a new design for my Molly. I think this is Jane Austen meets American Girl. What do you think? Are you seeing it? Or maybe what I should ask is...What do you see? What was your first impression? I am considering drafting a pattern for this dress, and I really can't get past "Miss Jane". It just sounds so perfect!
This fabric is a voile type cotton that I bought on vacation two years ago, It's so thin and dainty and it flows so nicely, I really do love it. The bodice is gathered all the way across the front and back and the neckline is square-ish (Did that make any sense?). I used pearl buttons down the back to add a more heirloom look. I wish I had taken a picture of that, oh well, maybe later.....right now God is watering our garden so I won't be taking any pictures today. I'm not complaining either, our garden needed it! Speaking of the garden, oh my goodness! This morning I had an omelet with fresh tomato and bell pepper, and for lunch we will be having fresh green bean soup (including fresh dill and other spices) with homemade wheat rolls, and for our snack I made cucumber and tomato salad. Summer meals are the best!!!! There is nothing better than eating fresh out of the garden for every meal! We have already started to get enough veggies to put up for Winter too, and that makes me very happy. There is just something about cutting up those still warm veggies for the next meal that just makes everything taste so much better, ya know! I think there will be a post very soon about our Summer meals, maybe we could all exchange our favorite 'fresh from the garden' recipes! Look at me...I start the post out about sewing and a new dress and then I write more about food than the dress...I'm going to eat some of that green bean soup...

I think it is very sweet! Wonderful job. :-) To be more Jane austen though..it needs short puffed sleeves maybe with a possibility for longer sleeves.

I Love the dress! It's so basic and yet innocently elegant all at the same time. The cap sleeve keeps it modern while the cut gives it that Jane air. I would love to make one for my daughter!

I LOVE your dresses, and thought I'd share the first thing that popped out at me:

Edging around the neckline in the same color as the waistband would look absolutely fabulous, and would even out the wonderful, bright contrast already provided.

Just a thought! =)

Very sweet dress. I think it might be a good pattern for the fuller-figured little girl, too.
Keep up the good work, Samantha!

The Handmade Dress Infomercial: Do you suffer from scrached DVD's?

Do your children cry when they can't watch their favorite movie because of irritating scratches? Are you sick of paying good money for movies that are scratched minutes after you take them from the case? Do you often wish that we could just go back to VHS because you could leave them out in the rain, bring them in and use them for a coaster, and then let the baby throw it for fun and it would STILL WORK!? ME TOO ! . We have struggled for years with scratched movies that were no longer watchable, but not anymore! We have finally found the secret formula to rid you of this nasty little problem forever! . Crest Kids Toothpaste! YES, that's what I said! Kids toothpaste! . A few months back I heard some place that toothpaste would take of scratches and I tried it and it didn't work, then the other day out of pure desperation I tried it my way. IT WORKED! So I decided this kind of news could not be kept secret, I have to tell the world! So I

New triple bunks.

Ben designed new bunk beds for the "girl's dorm" and "boy's dorm" in our house. We LOVE them!! We are almost done with all of the work, just a few loose ends left to tie up, but I couldn't wait to show off his handy-work. This is the girl set. We stained them with colored stain and we really like how that turned out. It's almost the color of cranberries. I still need to paint the boards that are attached to the wall. I'm going to paint them the color of the wall so that it looks like the beds are floating. :)  This is the boy set while still under construction. We ordered new bunk mattresses, but they haven't come in yet. I will show you guys pictures when they are completely finished. We stained these green, it looks like the color of bamboo. The kids LOVE these beds! And oh the space we have now! I'll be back soon with finished pictures! xo, Sam If any of you make beds using these plans could you send us a picture? We
