Easter Sunday

I made the deadline! I finished the last stitch on Easter dresses at around 11pm on the Saturday night before Easter...just in time! Oh the children were beautiful and Easter was wonderful but I was way too lazy about getting good pictures. I get that way sometimes.....ya know, sometimes I just want to live the moment instead of documenting it. Ever feel that way? Like sometimes it's too much work? Anyhow...

The wind was amazing on Sunday! which made our family get-together perfect since it's outside, but made picture taking a little tricky. I thought this one was cute though because they were all laughing at their silly daddy, and I love pictures with real smiles.

I seriously didn't know how to feel about Molly in this dress. I love the dress and all, but she just looked so grown up in it. It sort of reminded me of something Diana would wear in Anne of Avonlea. I think that's why she loved the dress so much, she felt like it was her first "big girl" style Easter dress. How did she get this big? Part of me is so proud of the young maiden in this picture and then part of me just wants to cry that she is so big.....Oh the joys of motherhood, it's always something isn't it.

Here is a close up of Molly's dress. She told me that she would remember it for forever. Sweet sweet girl. I love heirloom sewing! There is something about knowing that this dress will never go out of style and maybe one day her little girl can wear this, her favorite Easter dress, that makes it so rewarding.

And Miss Priss, my sweet Madeline. If you look closely you may notice that there is a hint of pink here and there, that's because I made pink slips! I was very happy with the way that worked out too, it almost reminded me of cotton candy! The effect was very subtle but it was so beautiful!

I threw this picture in because it was just too cute to pass up! While Ben was leading practice before church the kids joined in to help. Oh those precious little voices!

I'm not sure when I will be back because I'm leaving for the beach in the morning! BY MYSELF! Yep! Ben is keeping the children and me and five other ladies are headed to the beach for a weekend of leisure...I am so excited and nervous at the same time. I know I'm going to have a blast but I have never left my family before so I'm sure I will be itching to get back home too. Well, I'll see ya when I get back!

xoxo,

Samantha

Wow, those turned out so beautiful! Love that first picture...it made me smile! I went away for my first overnight with some ladies (I guess now that I think of it...I have gone to church retreats before). It was lots of fun, but it was kind of weird going without my family! We had a blast, though. Have fun! :)

Samantha,
The dresses are beautiful. So glad to finally see some pictures. Have a wonderful time at the beach. Missing the family will make coming home that much better, but relax and enjoy because you deserve it! xoxo Sheila

The dresses are great, so classic without being dated. I started reading your blog recently and I'm so impressed with the time and thought that goes into the things you've made :-)

My daughter turned 1 last month and that marked my first year of sewing, and I've made outfit on top of dresses on top of pj's for her, more than I'd ever feel the need to buy for her. But I've only made a few pairs of pants for my son, and two sad skirts for me! I wonder if little girl clothes are my only motivation, lol? Hopefully as my skills increase, my interests do too!

OMG the only thing missing are the live chicks or bunnies. The quintessential Easter dresses. Which pattern did you use? I love the pink slips too. It does look like cotton candy. You did a great job and they look so sweet and angelic. Good job mom and enjoy your girltime at the beach.

Beautiful and lovely! What pattern did you use for Molly's dress? I want it! (And in case you care, here are my two girls in their Easter dresses: Easter photo.)

Jean,

The dresses are gorgeous! You did a great job!

I didn't use a pattern for Molly's dress ( I hate to tell people that!) but you could easily alter a plain yoke dress pattern by just adding the puffing.

Aargh! I'm no good at that kind of thing. Tell you what, write out instructions and sell it to me! :)

Jean! LOL! I tell you what... a good place to start would be Martha Pullens book "French Hand Sewing By Machine". When I first started heirloom this was my favorite book ever! She gives you a good basic yoke pattern and then teaches you to add puffing entredeux and everything using the same pattern. That is basiclly what I did I just didn't use her pattern. All you would need then is a lower yoke pattern than the one she gives ( you probably already have one) and you woul dknow then how to alter it. Believe me this book is well worth the money!

Hope this helps hun, I hate to feel like I leave people hanging!

xoxo,
Samantha

The dresses are GORGEOUS!!! And of course Molly is looking so grown up but I've been noticing that the past few months, Mom - Ok, are you ready for this - - - the one I thought looked so much older was your little guy!

And the dress designs ARE unique! You just don't know! Maybe you could do a tutorial on making the puffing? And show just making a square piece of puffing and entreduex and lace and then cutting out the yoke? And they would get it - it's amazing to watch girls' faces in class when that light bulb comes on!!!

What classic dresses! Heirloom pieces for sure. The embroidery is lovely - is it your design? I'm inspired to try something of that nature now - something, like you said, that my little one can put her daughter in some day.

Have a rejuvenating vacation!

I think Molly's dress is my favorite, too!

That's the one book I don't have--I do have two of a four-part series called "Heirloom Sewing" by Pierce and Ahles' "Fine Sewing by Machine." Unfortunately I'm broke ATM--no heirloom sewing for me right now--but I will definitely put it on my wish list. So much sewing, so little time...and they grow up so fast!

The Handmade Dress Infomercial: Do you suffer from scrached DVD's?

Do your children cry when they can't watch their favorite movie because of irritating scratches? Are you sick of paying good money for movies that are scratched minutes after you take them from the case? Do you often wish that we could just go back to VHS because you could leave them out in the rain, bring them in and use them for a coaster, and then let the baby throw it for fun and it would STILL WORK!? ME TOO ! . We have struggled for years with scratched movies that were no longer watchable, but not anymore! We have finally found the secret formula to rid you of this nasty little problem forever! . Crest Kids Toothpaste! YES, that's what I said! Kids toothpaste! . A few months back I heard some place that toothpaste would take of scratches and I tried it and it didn't work, then the other day out of pure desperation I tried it my way. IT WORKED! So I decided this kind of news could not be kept secret, I have to tell the world! So I

New triple bunks.

Ben designed new bunk beds for the "girl's dorm" and "boy's dorm" in our house. We LOVE them!! We are almost done with all of the work, just a few loose ends left to tie up, but I couldn't wait to show off his handy-work. This is the girl set. We stained them with colored stain and we really like how that turned out. It's almost the color of cranberries. I still need to paint the boards that are attached to the wall. I'm going to paint them the color of the wall so that it looks like the beds are floating. :)  This is the boy set while still under construction. We ordered new bunk mattresses, but they haven't come in yet. I will show you guys pictures when they are completely finished. We stained these green, it looks like the color of bamboo. The kids LOVE these beds! And oh the space we have now! I'll be back soon with finished pictures! xo, Sam If any of you make beds using these plans could you send us a picture? We

A Wee Newborn Fairy Bonnet Pattern

I wanted to make something to go with the cardigan I made for my coming niece, so I decided on a wee fairy bonnet.
