Because if you have to have a broken arm......

...you may as well wear it with style and have a good story to go with it! That's our motto! Molly had an awesome bike wreck while camping this weekend with Nana and Papa. She rode her bike off of a bridge that wasn't finished yet and fell about 5' to the ground hurting her right arm. Papa made her a make-shift splint out of cardboard and fabric and she hopped back on that bike and kept on riding! I was there shortly after the wreck and she seemed to be doing fine, just favoring the arm a little. After a couple of hours the pain was too bad to ride bikes so I took her on to the local urgent care clinic. The doctor there told us that she couldn't be positive from the angle of the x-ray but she was highly suspicious that Molly's elbow was broken or cracked in the wreck.

So Molly got a pink temporary cast and an ugly navy blue sling. Well you know us, that ugly blue sling HAD to go. A girl can't be expected to sport one of those ugly things to church on Sunday morning while telling of her awesome bike wreck and showing off her pretty pink cast! Somewhere around midnight I was making my girl a sling that she could be proud of, and on Sunday morning she had a Sassy little sling to go with her pretty pink cast and her awesome story. A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do, ya know.

Today we are headed off to the children's orthopedic doctor to find out if the arm is really broken or not and Molly's all excited about showing off her outfit/sling combo again. Silly girl! But really...Can I blame her? She does make having a broke arm look good! LOL! Did I mention that Baby Sister coordinated too? Maybe it was a little over-the-top, but we may as well enjoy it!! This may be our last broken arm! LOL!
UPDATE: Well, it's definitely broke. Today the Ortho doc said that she broke the growth plate in her wrist. Molly is now sporting a pretty red cast and she is insanely proud! LOL! I will try to get a picture up before it's brown with dirt from the garden! She is loving all of the comments she is getting about her sling too, that child has been walking on clouds all day!

Dana,

The fabric is by "Brother and Sister Design Studio" at Hobby Lobby. It is the same fabric as the skirt she is wearing and if you click on the pic you may be able to get a better view :)

What a cute sling!
Glad she has cuteness to look at while she recovers. :o)
I LOVE the sling! What a great idea! They make colored casts for kids now...you'd think they'd make stylish slings, too!

wow I could have written this same story about my neice, minus the bridge and add a recliner, lol. I made her a pretty Heather Ross Mendecino sling to replace the hospital blue after her surgery to repair her broken elbow. They bounce back so well, hope yours does too :o) by the way you did a MUCH more professional job than me ;O)

Goosegirl said…
Well, Sam, after admiring this back in April, I was privileged to make one for Ahnalin yesterday. Too funny! I hope that your girly healed well. Please pray for my girl. It was a bad break and she already had one surgery on Thursday. We are praying that is all she needs.

My stylish :) daughter just broke her arm and the slings in the stores couldn't be uglier. I love your sling and hope my mom can do something similar. Have you considered selling online?

I am incredibly curious where you found that adorable sling. My daughter just broke her collarbone and needs a sling for 6 weeks. I too have the ugly navy one. I would love to know how to get a sling like your daughters.

P.S. I hope your daughter is healing well!!!

Oh, I am just about to make a sling for my girl, she broke her collarbone last night, and the only sling they had to fit her was a Snoopy one, and she hates Snoopy! What did you use to make the strap? Is it adjustable?

Gorgeous sling - the best I've seen. My mother-in-law broke her arm, and for our Christmas Eve get together everyone has been asked to wear a creative sling in a show of support. Your sling made with Christmas cloth will be perfect - THANK YOU!

The Handmade Dress Infomercial: Do you suffer from scrached DVD's?

Do your children cry when they can't watch their favorite movie because of irritating scratches? Are you sick of paying good money for movies that are scratched minutes after you take them from the case? Do you often wish that we could just go back to VHS because you could leave them out in the rain, bring them in and use them for a coaster, and then let the baby throw it for fun and it would STILL WORK!? ME TOO ! . We have struggled for years with scratched movies that were no longer watchable, but not anymore! We have finally found the secret formula to rid you of this nasty little problem forever! . Crest Kids Toothpaste! YES, that's what I said! Kids toothpaste! . A few months back I heard some place that toothpaste would take of scratches and I tried it and it didn't work, then the other day out of pure desperation I tried it my way. IT WORKED! So I decided this kind of news could not be kept secret, I have to tell the world! So I

New triple bunks.

Ben designed new bunk beds for the "girl's dorm" and "boy's dorm" in our house. We LOVE them!! We are almost done with all of the work, just a few loose ends left to tie up, but I couldn't wait to show off his handy-work. This is the girl set. We stained them with colored stain and we really like how that turned out. It's almost the color of cranberries. I still need to paint the boards that are attached to the wall. I'm going to paint them the color of the wall so that it looks like the beds are floating. :)  This is the boy set while still under construction. We ordered new bunk mattresses, but they haven't come in yet. I will show you guys pictures when they are completely finished. We stained these green, it looks like the color of bamboo. The kids LOVE these beds! And oh the space we have now! I'll be back soon with finished pictures! xo, Sam If any of you make beds using these plans could you send us a picture? We
