The Run Down

We are at it again....The Handmade Dress (the pattern business that is) is growing so fast that we are having quite a time keeping up with all of the stuff that goes along with it! I have slowly been pushed out of my sewing space in the loft because of gigantic printers, desks, boxes of paper, and packaged patterns. I handled that pretty well for a while. I think. Back in the summer we had to move a lot of the office stuff (a bigger desk, Pam-the paper folding machine, and the printer downstairs to my bedroom because, well, even the loft wasn't big enough anymore. Then a couple of weeks ago when we got that terrific news from the doctor I told my wonderful husband "Sorry hunny, I need a cradle, not a desk, by my bed soon. You're going to have to build yourself a room in the attic. You need a real office." And he agreed. Of course. So the Attic is under construction once again, and the president of the company will soon have his very own office right next to the sewing loft! And I will have my sewing loft BACK!!! YAY! Ben says that he hopes to have it ready sometime in the next couple of weeks!

We also started school a few weeks back and things are going really well. Tim is in the FIRST grade now! We are using Bob Jones, like we did with Molly, and he seems to like it just as much as she did. Molly has moved up to Switched on Schoolhouse (it starts in THIRD grade) and so far she is LOVING it. She says that she wants to do SOS from now on, so I think that's a good sign. Maddie is doing some pre-school work while I teach Tim every morning, and I think I may have an early bloomer on my hands! Thank goodness! I'm looking forward to spending next year with her, it looks like she will be a breeze.

By the way, the doll you see in her arms up there is "Jake". She's been lugging that big ole thing everywhere since we told her about our newest addition. You may be seeing him again, so I thought that I should introduce him. :)

Another thing I wanted to tell you is that the next post you see here will be posted from the beach! Family vacation is coming up in a couple of days and I am so excited! Not only will we have the whole family there (my parents, his parents, and all of our siblings) but his brother Daniel, and his wife Cristina, along with our precious nephew Luke, will be meeting us there after their flight home from Romania!!!!! We haven't seen them in over SIX MONTHS because they have been in Romania visiting her family, and I am sooooo pumped about seeing them again this week!! I can't wait to kiss that baby's little face! He was just a few months old the last time we saw him! It will feel so good when they are home again and we get to see them all the time.

The next time you see us we will be in flip flops and sunglasses! :) And when we get back maybe it will start acting like fall around here -it isn't supposed to be in the 90's all week this week so things are looking up! I hope you have a great week friends! xo, Sam

I was wondering-- I wanted to try SOS for science but I am afraid of losing everything if the technology goes phffft. Is there some way you keep that from happening or has it happened? I currently have a 6th and 9th grader.

I just wanted to say how much I've enjoyed your blog. Thank you!

Earlier this summer, you inspired me to sew a dress for my little sister. I thought you might enjoy seeing pictures: http://meltintall3.livejournal.com/10826.html#cutid1

New triple bunks.

Ben designed new bunk beds for the "girl's dorm" and "boy's dorm" in our house. We LOVE them!! We are almost done with all of the work, just a few loose ends left to tie up, but I couldn't wait to show off his handy-work. This is the girl set. We stained them with colored stain and we really like how that turned out. It's almost the color of cranberries. I still need to paint the boards that are attached to the wall. I'm going to paint them the color of the wall so that it looks like the beds are floating. :)  This is the boy set while still under construction. We ordered new bunk mattresses, but they haven't come in yet. I will show you guys pictures when they are completely finished. We stained these green, it looks like the color of bamboo. The kids LOVE these beds! And oh the space we have now! I'll be back soon with finished pictures! xo, Sam If any of you make beds using these plans could you send us a picture? We

The Handmade Dress Infomercial: Do you suffer from scrached DVD's?

Do your children cry when they can't watch their favorite movie because of irritating scratches? Are you sick of paying good money for movies that are scratched minutes after you take them from the case? Do you often wish that we could just go back to VHS because you could leave them out in the rain, bring them in and use them for a coaster, and then let the baby throw it for fun and it would STILL WORK!? ME TOO ! . We have struggled for years with scratched movies that were no longer watchable, but not anymore! We have finally found the secret formula to rid you of this nasty little problem forever! . Crest Kids Toothpaste! YES, that's what I said! Kids toothpaste! . A few months back I heard some place that toothpaste would take of scratches and I tried it and it didn't work, then the other day out of pure desperation I tried it my way. IT WORKED! So I decided this kind of news could not be kept secret, I have to tell the world! So I

The Family Closet

It's another gray day so the pictures aren't great, but I wanted to get these posted since I have a few minutes. The family closet has changed my life people!! It has taken my most overwhelming chore from crazy to totally doable. We had to start in the laundry room because that is were most of this process starts. These storage racks went on sale for 69$ right after Christmas and we got 3. We also got several of the $3.50 Steralite clothes baskets because they fit side by side perfectly. In the laundry room I now have baskets labeled (Whites, Towels, Darks, Reds & Purples -we have a lot of those!) to separate clothes into, baskets marked "Clean" for clean clothes, a place for storage (extra dish cloths, table cloths, socks that need a mate). The laundry room is much less intimidating now, I actually like going in there! I also now have room for my drying rack in here! I painted a huge henna design on the wall to pretty it up a bit. :) The Caffee sign
