Just in case...

....you thought that the Shingles were something that only seventy year old men could get.... IT'S NOT TRUE! As a matter of fact the smallest person in this house, my little four year old Madeline, was just diagnosed with them this morning. Poor baby! She can't even stand to wear a shirt the poor little thing :( She acts like she has a really bad sunburn. Anyone have any tricks for relieving the pain? The doctor put her on an antiviral hoping that since we have caught them early they won't last the usual four to six weeks. Let's hope not :( If you know of any natural soaks, creams, or foods that may help let me know. I'll be here holding "The Baby" and watching princess movies if you need me. xo, Sam

Poor thing! My husband had shingles last summer and our naturopath gave him a homeopathic remedy that really seemed to help with the pain. Just an idea :)

Hi Sam,
I really thought they were something older people got as well!
Poor little baby. You could try putting about 1/4 cup rolled oats into small muslin bag and popping them into a bath. The oats are really soothing on the skin. You will have to throw the bag out after one use.
Blessings to you and your lovely family and I do hope she feels better soon.

Aww, poor baby! My daughter got them last year (when she was 11), but fortunately she had a pretty mild case. I hope Maddie gets better soon. *hugs*

My husband had them just this winter (at 26). We read Capcasin (sp?)cream would help. He also put neosporin on the scabs to prevent infection, but nothing fully relieved the muscle pains. I feel so bad for your little one.

I don't really have a good suggestion for pain relief other than trying a little Motrin or something, but a little head's up is that the nerve pain can actually linger well beyond the 6 weeks, very slowly dissipating over time for SOME people, not necessarily everyone. It's a terrible deep ache that compares to nothing else. I had them around my chest right after my 2nd baby was born (she got the chicken pox from me b/c of it!).

Praying she feels better soon!!

WOW! My 15 year old son just had them 2 weeks ago. He was put on antibiotics, antiviral medication and the dr. also prescribed Bacitrain (sp?) ointment which helped heal his shingles almost over night. He had a hard time the first few days with the burning and pain, but said that apple cider vinegar really helped when applied with a washcloth. Hope this helps!

Celeste had them at 18 mos and the antivirals are great. Rhus Tox is a homeopathic remedy that can really offer some relief. I am so sorry, Sam!

SO sorry! On a happy note, I was on sew mama sew's website and saw your pattern and I was so happy! I hope this helps you financially so you can get your adopted kids home!

Oh Sam, I am praying for your poor baby. I have no advice at all regarding the shingles. I just feel for you and your sweet girl.I pray for healing and comfort. I hope no one else in the house catches it. And I pray for strength for you.

I know you're probably getting tons of advice but a naturopath may have some options the pediatrician doesn't have....especially when it comes to autoimmune disorders and shingles. I'll be praying for your little one and for strength for you.

New triple bunks.

Ben designed new bunk beds for the "girl's dorm" and "boy's dorm" in our house. We LOVE them!! We are almost done with all of the work, just a few loose ends left to tie up, but I couldn't wait to show off his handy-work. This is the girl set. We stained them with colored stain and we really like how that turned out. It's almost the color of cranberries. I still need to paint the boards that are attached to the wall. I'm going to paint them the color of the wall so that it looks like the beds are floating. :)  This is the boy set while still under construction. We ordered new bunk mattresses, but they haven't come in yet. I will show you guys pictures when they are completely finished. We stained these green, it looks like the color of bamboo. The kids LOVE these beds! And oh the space we have now! I'll be back soon with finished pictures! xo, Sam If any of you make beds using these plans could you send us a picture? We

The Handmade Dress Infomercial: Do you suffer from scrached DVD's?

Do your children cry when they can't watch their favorite movie because of irritating scratches? Are you sick of paying good money for movies that are scratched minutes after you take them from the case? Do you often wish that we could just go back to VHS because you could leave them out in the rain, bring them in and use them for a coaster, and then let the baby throw it for fun and it would STILL WORK!? ME TOO ! . We have struggled for years with scratched movies that were no longer watchable, but not anymore! We have finally found the secret formula to rid you of this nasty little problem forever! . Crest Kids Toothpaste! YES, that's what I said! Kids toothpaste! . A few months back I heard some place that toothpaste would take of scratches and I tried it and it didn't work, then the other day out of pure desperation I tried it my way. IT WORKED! So I decided this kind of news could not be kept secret, I have to tell the world! So I

The Family Closet

It's another gray day so the pictures aren't great, but I wanted to get these posted since I have a few minutes. The family closet has changed my life people!! It has taken my most overwhelming chore from crazy to totally doable. We had to start in the laundry room because that is were most of this process starts. These storage racks went on sale for 69$ right after Christmas and we got 3. We also got several of the $3.50 Steralite clothes baskets because they fit side by side perfectly. In the laundry room I now have baskets labeled (Whites, Towels, Darks, Reds & Purples -we have a lot of those!) to separate clothes into, baskets marked "Clean" for clean clothes, a place for storage (extra dish cloths, table cloths, socks that need a mate). The laundry room is much less intimidating now, I actually like going in there! I also now have room for my drying rack in here! I painted a huge henna design on the wall to pretty it up a bit. :) The Caffee sign
